| A copy of a copy of a copy of an original photograph… That original is unfortunately lost to me but this entry in an unpublished genealogy of my father’s family gives us the only shot of my grandfather and his siblings in their childhood. Grandfather Engbertus is the oldest, standing to the left. Second from right is my great-aunt Egberdina Anna Hesselink, whom we called aunt Sis. Younger brother Herman (far right) died at the age of 18 in 1898. The other brother Laurens (second from right) lived from 1886 until 1925. He was an engineer who emigrated tot he United States where, among other things (like New York City’s 'Hell Gate Bridge'), he was involved in the building of 'Cement City' in Donora, PA. |
