Zojuist op flickr.com gepubliceerd met de volgende beschrijving:
From an old photo album of my grandmother's. A picture of the old fishing harbor of the medieval city of Veere.
It was probably taken from one of the top windows of the Campveerse Toren,
formerly one of the defensive towers around the city and now, for decades already,
a famous hotel and restaurant. On the right we see the city's flower mill , "the Cow" (currently for sale at € 1.250.000)
while on the left we can see part of the gothic city hall. As you can see, fishing was still done in boats
driven by the wind... The tide is low, as you can also see; Veere was a seaport.
At the time, 1938, Veere was a poor, delapidated little town, a far cry from its medieval glory
when it was an important port and held a thriving community. Nowadays the little town
(a city really, since it got its city rights in 1355 and Veere's current inhabitants won't let you forget it!)
is thriving again and has been restored completely; tourism of course being the driving force behind that...
