I have to skip a year; in 1987 we spent a large part of the summer in the U.S. and when we came back personal circumstances prevented us from more holiday-ing in Zeeland.
In 1988 my father decided to sell the house in Veere. That summer we spent one last long vacation there. The munchkin has grown, she is now four years old. No longer a toddler, more a preschooler.Contrary to her mother (who, being used to Caribean water temperatures, always found the North Sea too cold) she loves the water...
We're not at Breezand this time but at Domburg, further west. Typical of that part of the coast are the stormbreakers, visible in the distance: long double rows of heavy poles reaching far into the sea to break the waves before they fall on the beach...
Behind the beach there is an old forest with gnarled, crooked (bent by the seawind and salty air) trees, a wonderful and mysterious place with a medieval castle in the middle of it.
