Zojuist gepost op flickr.com onder de titel: 'Uncle Jan Meijer in wartime' en met het volgende bijschrift:
"Jan Meijer (1908-1991), married to my father's sister Egberta Johanna
(1913-2011) joined the 'Princess Irene Brigade' during WWII and as such
took part in the liberation of Europe. The brigade was made up out of
Dutch volunteers from either the unoccupied Dutch colonies, the merchant
marines who happened to be out of port or from those few people who
had somehow escaped occupied Europe to
make their way to England. It fought under British command. When and
where this picture was taken is unknown. Jan Meijer, sitting left in
front of their tent, is joined here by one Grootkerk (sitting right) and
(standing, from left) Janssen, van Hout and Terol, as was noted down by
Jans daughter Marthe Meijer. The picture was scanned from one of her
family's photo albums." |
