Another shot from my 1975 easter visit to my parents then holiday home outside Veere, the medieval town
where my mother grew up. My friend Lieke and myself were working on some college paper there and on
a misty morning took this walk over the old seadike towards town. With the improvised pedestrian revolving
gate and Lieke in the foreground we see the iconic view of the town as it has been depicted by painters
countless times over the ages. From left first theCampveere Tower, the medieval entrance gate to the harbor.
Then the slender tower of the gothic city hall, the fat and somewhat grotesque shape of the 14th century
cathedral (a little big maybe for a town of some 500 inhabitants?) and the old grain mill 'the Cow' across
the road from my parents' house. |
